Charlotte Brontë was born in Thornton, Yorkshire, in the north of England in 1816. She was the third daughter of Patrick Brontë, a clergyman,1 and Maria Branwell. The family moved to Haworth Parsonage2 in North Yorkshire in 1800. The couple had five daughters and one son.
