Tsunami one year after - EU supports Aceh peace process

For 30 years the Free Aceh Movement had been waging an insurgency which was fiercely opposed by the Indonesian army. In August 2005, an Agreement was signed and a peace mission launched by the EU within the framework of its Security and Defence policy. The report shows the Aceh Monitoring Mission work throughout province: destruction of weapons, reintegration of former fighters into civil society, visits to remote villages to explain the details of the peace agreement, observation of the partial retreat of the Indonesian army.
