Video: Introduction to Metabolism
This lesson includes an overview of metabolism, distinguishing between autotrophs and heterotrophs organisms and between catabolism and anabolism. We study intermediary metabolism and what a metabolite is. Then we look at the three common traits of metabolism, with forward and reverse reaction. In the last section we investigate 6 types of reactions: oxidation-reduction, group transfer, hydrolisis, non-hydrolytic cleavage reactions, isomerization/rearrangement and bond formation reactions. There are comprehension questions we need to answer to move forward in this lesson.
